I’m a self-care enthusiast! I believe the most important relationship is the one we hold with ourselves. It starts from within. That’s why I love showing women how to live better by building a healthier self-relationship. It’s all about feeling fabulous and fit on the inside so you live better on the outside!
My Story
While working at a weightloss clinic, I discovered my passion for encouraging others on their path to better health. That’s when the conception of creating a women’s wellness program came about. So, I pursued an undergraduate degree in nutrition and food science with a minor in human ecology. You might be asking what is human ecology? Human Ecology is a dynamic field that explores the relationships between people and the environments they interact with. It takes a multidisciplinary approach to solve problems and enhance potential in all environments where people live and work. In a nutshell, I enhance the everyday life for people. With this understanding, I focus on the inner you and your part in it. By helping women make positive inner change, it naturally flows into their external environment. I use both my knowledge and life experiences to help women thrive.
Early in my studies I began a meditation practice. This led to other self-care habits in gratitude and mindfulness. I never led such practices in the past. Not long after I experienced an epiphany “as much a nutrients are food for the body, self-care practices are food for the soul and are imperative if I want to be happy”. Nourishing another aspect of me began a transformation process. My practices were consistent becoming habitual like brushing my teeth. From this personal growth, I developed solid coping skills and so much more.
A week before starting my final semester, my husband Lance was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I withdrew from university to be a caregiver to Lance. Self-care practices enabled me to have a healthy experience as a caregiver and in the grief process. With Lance responding well to his chemo treatments I could complete my studies. Two years after his diagnosis, he passed. Through my healing journey, I birthed my first book, For The Caregiver, Providing Yourself Emotional Support On Your Caregiving Journey. My book empowers caregivers by teaching them coping skills. This is a personal memoir of how I supported my emotional well-being while being a caregiver to Lance. Not only was I working on my book, I was also creating Fabulous & Fit at 40+. From doing all of this I earned my designation as a professional human ecologist.
In my caregiving journey I learned how to love myself unconditionally and that led to another transformation. That is why this wellness program is built on a foundation of self-love. There was this desire to include a wardrobe element. As we age our body is changing too so I brought the colours in and little did I know how wearing the right colours impacted my emotional well-being and deepened my self-connection. It also changed my shopping behaviour, prevented shopping mistakes, increased my confidence and helped me feel healthy and vibrant too. Having certification in colour analysis I discovered an interest in fashion. Colour and Fashion was created to help people take the first step to improving their wardrobe with a colour analysis. Of course my program always had a nutrition element in mind. In my studies, I learned about the Mediterranean diet and fell in love with this eating pattern. Not coming from the Mediterranean countries, I learned how to incorporate more healthy fats, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes and beans. Now, I can educate women on this way of food consumption through my Fabulous & Fit at 40 Plus class.
